This should not have happened. This angers me so deeply. Since becoming a mom and having my son via home birth, naturally, in the water (yes a good old fashion water birth) I’ve very much felt called to encourage women to remove their fear around birth. It took a lot of work and educating myself but once I removed the fear I felt so empowered and even excited about birth. I even encourage home births through education on my social media a well which is why this story about a hospital birth is so devastating.

You’ve probably heard this news by now but a baby was decapitated during a hospital birth in Atlanta and the story gets much worse. A couple headed to Southern Regional Medical Center, south of Atlanta, to give birth to their first baby, a son. But they never were given a chance to bring him home. (source)

She was induced, fully dilated and Dr.Tracey St. Julian, M.D. allegedly used excessive force pulling on the baby’s head and neck to try to deliver this sweet boy. The couple wanted a C-section earlier on but were apparently denied and instead the baby got stuck during delivery. All the while St. Julian delayed a C-section and failed to seek help quickly... and instead, this doctor applied aggressive force on the baby’s head causing decapitation. Three hours passed before this doctor took the mother in for a cesarean section, and by then a fetal monitor stopped registering a the baby’s heartbeat.

This poor mother had to have a C-section to remove the legs and body of her baby boy and deliver the baby’s head vaginally. It gets much much worse because the doctor and medical staff didn’t let the mother and father know what was going on, “their attorneys also accused Southern Regional staff of trying to cover up the decapitation by discouraging the couple from getting an autopsy, encouraging them to have their son cremated and wrapping and propping his body to make it appear the head was still attached.”

When the the funeral home received the baby they flagged authorities immediately because they were completely horrified by what they saw.

This should not have happened. My heart goes out to them and their family during this devastating time.

Let’s talk about birth for a second because I love this subject, and also, you can read about my home birth story here and see my birth video.

By the way… I will not say
