The Surprising Ingredient That Makes Your Hot Chocolate Rich, Creamy + Healthy
It supports gut health and the immune system
This is a super rich hot chocolate that is also nutritious for the whole family.
Most hot chocolate recipes or mixes have a lot of sugar and if you’re getting a hot chocolate from your local coffee shop or Starbucks then you’re looking at 35g of sugar which is more than your daily recommended amount. Sometimes people even get a second drink, too making it an ungodly amount of sugar that is just not good for you.
You can make your own hot chocolate, it’s so easy and you get to be in control of the ingredients you use. This recipe is super low carb and keto-friendly. It’s high protein and dairy free and it’s made with a secret ingredient that might throw you for a loop but stay with me on this.
I use beef bone broth! First of all, did you know that bone broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system? It has healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline. The collagen in bone broth also promotes gut health and it heals your gut lining and reduces inflammation in your intestines! It can also improve your joint health, reduce cellulite and promote healthy skin. What’s not to like?
If you have any hesitations about using bone broth for your hot chocolate, start by using 1/2 hot chocolate and 1/2 water or milk of choice. I also use bone broth in place of water when I make oatmeal or even my one pot Mac and cheese (shall I post that recipe here?) I promise that it will make any recipe including this hot chocolate so rich and flavorful plus you’re getting all sorts of amazing benefits.
1 cup beef bone broth
1/4 cup coconut cream
2 scoops collagen peptides
1 1/2 Tablespoon this cocoa powder
1/2 Tablespoon this vanilla
1 Tablespoon this vanilla stevia syrup (or 1-2 Tablespoons maple syrup or honey)
You can use beef or chicken - I find beef to be better for this recipe. Heat bone broth and coconut cream in a sauce pan. Once it starts simmering, turn heat down and add in cocoa powder, vanilla and sweetener. Stir. Add collagen (optional). Pour into a mug and top with frothed Nutpods coffee creamer, whipped cream or marshmallows with some shaved Chocolate on top. Baddaboom!
