What is creatine? How can work for men and women… and for me, how is it possibly helping with what I’ve been going through? (and which one I’m taking)… let’s talk.
Losing a baby is an emotional roller coaster… thank you for making it a safe space for me to talk about it in my last post. I recently started taking a supplement after doing some research on it and how it can possibly help but it’s not just for women dealing with what I’m going through.
Creatine … what is it and what can it do for you?
You may or may not have heard of creatine before. It’s a supplement that bodybuilders take but it’s good for much more than pumping iron. Creatine is a naturally occurring compound that is found in our muscles and brain. It helps fuel every cell in your entire body by supporting energy production. While your body makes it, stressful life events, poor sleep, and hormone shifts can deplete it— and for me at the moment especially during something like miscarriage recovery.

Boosting Brain Energy - When you're mentally and emotionally exhausted, it’s often due to your brain literally running low on fuel. Creatine can help restore that energy, improving your clarity, your focus, and your emotional stability.
Supporting Mood and Mental Resilience - there are some studies showing that creatine can help reduce depressive symptoms… this is especially promising for women in the postpartum window—including after loss.

But is it safe? - Creatine is one of the most studied supplements in the world which I find to be pretty comforting. Though most people have only recently heard of it it’s nothing new. Thanks to social media though it’s getting a spotlight. Creatine has a long track record of safety—even at higher doses. It’s naturally found in foods like red meat and fish, but many women don’t get enough through diet alone, especially if they’re plant-based or recovering from stress.
… A miscarriage is more than a physical thing—it’s an emotional and hormonal storm that really can’t prepare for. Most people don’t even realize that you can experience postpartum depression after a miscarriage. Your body still goes through postpartum changes. Hormones still crash. And for many women, this is accompanied by intense sadness, anxiety, brain fog, and even symptoms of depression. It’s really a roller coaster. Right now I feel like I’m riding this roller coaster and while most of the time it can be tame or not so wild other times it just starts going on loops and corkscrews.
For men it’s obviously very similar… helps with brain function, focus and memory and can even help reduce mental fatigue and improve cognitive performance with stress or even with sleep deprivation (so I also have my hubby taking it, too). It Can enhance neuroprotection, supporting long-term brain health and reducing age-related cognitive decline. It can help alleviate symptoms of depression and can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. When it comes to physical performance it’s great for increasing strength and power, and lean muscle mass… even better when paired with resistance training. It can help with a faster recovery (post workout) and supports testosterone levels. For men with high pressure or high demand jobs, it can help with brain fog and energy levels (also why I have my hubby taking it).
I have been drinking the same protein powder now for over a year. I finally found one that doesn’t make me feel sick and isn’t pea protein or whey protein (both of which I don’t do well with).
