The New Whole30 SELLS OUT & Allows Toxic Seed Oils & MSG Due To "inclusivity" But We Know It's Really About The Money
Why you can't trust their seal of approval on products anymore
The whole30 started back in 2009 when Melissa Urban and her then husband, Dallas Hartwig started to blog about a 30-day dietary experiment and has since then transformed into a 30 day program that millions of people have taken part of over the years. The Whole30 is a 30-day elimination diet that puts an emphasis on real, whole foods and cutting out sugar, alcohol, grains, gluten, dairy, legumes, soy and more. It’s similar to a paleo diet but much more restrictive as you aren’t allowed to eat any sweets/sweeteners like maple syrup, honey or keto sugars like stevia or monk fruit. You can’t have baked goods or anything of the like even if it only uses compliant ingredients. I’ll write more about that below. After the 30 days, you’re not done! You then do a reintroduction phase to add back in foods little by little to see how your body tolerates them. It’s turned into a huge business for Melissa and there are tons of Whole30 Cookbooks with a new one that was just released called The NEW Whole30. This new book and details the new rules/rule changes that I will get to.
(I met Melissa at a food expo back in 2019. She was really nice and honestly I’m sure she’s a nice person (I say that genuinely) but I can still think she’s a nice person and disagree with her stance on everything)
With the Whole30 comes a coveted seal - WHOLE30 APPROVED - that is on hundreds and hundreds of products where you just know if you see it on a bottle you can have it on your whole30 - 30 day challenge. So think, meat sticks, dressings, sauces, snacks etc. The nice thing about that seal of approval is that, for me and so many people whether on whole30 of not you could see it on a bottle and trust that the ingredients are good quality and they were without sugar, seed oils, dairy etc. For instance, if you are paleo (like I am 99% of the time) then you could theoretically look to that seal of approval on a product and just know that you could have it. Until now. Even chipotle had a partnership with the Whole30 and you could get a burrito bowl at all their locations done Whole30-style and it was an easy way to eat out or get a quick meal on the go and stay on the plan.
But… it’s all bout the benjamins baby.
